Feb 06, 2004 Dear Friends; My trumpet teacher have a Couesnon Flugel with serial no 79xxx. Its in gold lacqer in excellent condition. I wish to know where I can Found the serial number Info to track the year of manufacture. Oct 23, 2010 Couesnon Flugelhorn, SN# 75512 On the 2nd Valve It's stamped 'N'. Bb is stamped on the tuning shank along with '23' All valves & slides are. Feb 08, 2009 There is no known record of the serial numbers of the old Couesnons (pronounced 'que-non,' in case you don't know).Their records were destroyed by fire in 1969, and the horns have switched hands so much, no one really knows anything about the Couesnon dating. Note that these horns have a bit different serial number structure. It's probable that either when Couesnon was incorporated or when they moved to their new.
This circa 1963 Couesnon Flugelhorn is in excellent (almost pristine) cosmetic and mechanical condition. It is brass lacquered and beautiful. The serial number is 73054. This flugel had a Doctor Valve instrument overhaul by Steve Winans last fall (2009.) Doctor Valve did a 'valve overhaul' (aka valve job) as part of this process, so the valves are nickel plated, as stock. The horn was re-lacquered to bring it back to stock 1963 condition. Of the many Couesnon flugelhorns I have owned and played, this particular horn is by far the best.
The list of players who have played or still play this model instrument includes Bobby Shew, Freddie Hubbard, Chuck Findley, Chet Baker, Kenny Dorham, and me. This particular instrument was manufactured circa 1963 in Paris, France. The valves are freshly nickel plated and in perfect condition. In fact, they aren't completely 'broken-in' yet. The brass lacquer is 100% intact. Stamped on the 2nd valve casing is the letter 'D' and 'Bb' is stamped on the mouthpiece receiver.

The owner of this flugelhorn is me, Roger Ingram . I have used this instrument on every record date and live performance since 1993. For the list of records I used this flugel on, you can see my discography at my website. Because my recent involvement with the Jupiter Band Instrument Company coincided with the refurbishing of this flugelhorn, and because of my participation in (and excitement about) the design of the NEW Jupiter XO flugelhorn (as well as my signature model Bb trumpet, the Jupiter XO Series 1600I) I have hardly played it since refurbishing. I am committed to the design of the new Jupiter XO Series flugelhorn and tfore have decided to put this great Couesnon 'out to pasture.' However, rather than letting this wonderful horn sit in it's original case and collect dust in my basement (and it never being played) I think it is only fair to let someone else enjoy this instrument. So.. I'm letting the Couesnon go.

To the best of my knowledge, the Couesnon factory manufactured 3 models of flugelhorn. The 'Couesnon,' designated with a large capital 'C' in the word 'Couesnon' stamped on the bell, the 'couesnon star' (without the large capital 'C') and the 'couesnon monopole' (also without the enlarged capital 'C.') From information I have gatd through the years, it is generally believed that the 'Couesnon' with the capital 'C' in the name stamped on the bell is a medium bore. The 'couesnon star' is a medium-large bore. The 'couesnon monopole' is a large bore. In 1969 the main factory in Château Thierry was badly damaged by fire, destroying nearly all the mandrels and tooling, and the manufacturing records. Because of this, much of the information regarding Couesnon flugelhorns is rather sketchy and a bit of a mystery. However, the Couesnon with the capital 'C' stamped in the name on the bell is considered the 'classic' model flugelhorn used by those of us in the business. It is also considered to be the easiest playing Couesnon flugelhorn of the 3 models. This particular flugelhorn I am offering on this auction is the medium bored flugel with the capital 'C' stamped in the name on the bell.
I purchased this horn in pristine original condition from a collector in 1993. It has all original parts including the 3rd valve slide lever. Code red tv serial. The only modification to this horn is the Amado waterkey added to the 3rd valve slide. (Stock from the factory, Couesnon flugelhorns did not have a waterkey on the 3rd valve slide.) As I take very good care of all my instruments, t has never been any major damage to this horn. It was overhauled last fall simply due to normal wear and tear from regular use. This horn will come with a signed certificate of authenticity, and is being sold with the original purple hard case, which is in good condition. Also included with the flugelhorn and case is the original mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is raw brass, and is in fair condition.
As a poin..

Couesnon Flugelhorn Serial Numbers
Hello! I started playing the Alto Saxophone in 1976 and my parents bought me a used horn to start since they weren't convinced I would stick with it. I did get a new sax in high school, so this one was played by me for about 5 years. I continued playing through college and still play for Alumni Band at the University of Pittsburgh from time to time.
My parents just gave me my old Sax in an attempt to clean out their home. I have been trying to research the company who made the horn to see when it was made and what the value might be. If it's rare or valuable I would probably sell it. The horn is all brass. The bell says Couesnon, 105 Rue LaFayette, Paris, Monopole Conservatoires. There is some fancy scroll work on the rest of the bell and at the base there is the number 7391 and MADE IN FRANCE stamped.
The keys are all mother of pearl and the finish is a good bit worn but looks like it would shine up nicely. The keys were re-padded when I played. I do see one missing spring that moves the f# key (I believe - I'm a bit rusty!) I have the ability to send .jpg images if anyone wants to see the details.
Any information on the company and the potential value of the horn would be appreciated GREATLY! :)
